According to the World Bank’s 2023 Mozambique Economic Update report, the medium-term outlook for the economy is positive, with growth hovering around 6 percent on average in upcoming years. That growth should be boosted by service sectors, increased liquefied natural gas and high commodity prices.
In November 2022, a high-level visit of top Mozambique ministers to Japan contributed to broadening the scope of bilateral economic relations between the two countries. Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Nishimura encouraged Mozambique authorities to continue on their path toward opening up and diversifying the nation’s economy, which is increasing trade and investment opportunities.

Japan is firmly committed to African development, especially in the areas of energy and infrastructure, and is also supporting African civil societies with educational and health programs.
Analysts agree that transportation and logistics, energy, information and communication technologies, capital markets, agribusiness, banking, insurance and textiles all provide enormous potential for commercial success in Mozambique.
Two standout sectors of opportunity are agribusiness and energy, particularly due to the country’s capacity for hydroelectric power and its untapped reserves of natural gas.
Furthermore, Mozambique is not receiving the international media attention its South African neighbors are getting when it comes to tourism — even though the country offers some of the world’s most beautiful and unspoiled beaches, amazing wildlife and a cultural renaissance, where younger generations are melding tradition with a more cosmopolitan approach to life.
With all this in mind, Global Insight is back in Mozambique to produce an economic and investment report that will be published with Japan’s largest and most influential English-language newspaper: the Japan Times.
The natural choice of reading for local and international businesspeople living in Japan, the Japan Times has become the real source of information when it comes to the international arena.
